KUALA LUMPUR: A National Service (NS) trainee at Kem Akademi Kepimpinan Segari in Pantai Remis, Perak, died from acute leukaemia at Seri Manjung Hospital.
The remains of Chu Kar Wai,18, who died at 2.20pm, were taken back to his house in Shah Alam at 11pm for burial.
“Chu was treated for fever by the assistant medical officer at the camp clinic on May 8,” National Service Training Department director-general Datuk Abdul Hadi Awang Kechil said.
“He returned on May 10 with fever but was referred to the hospital.
“His parents were informed of this and were with him in the ward until he died on Wednesday.
“Even Chu’s mother did not know about his illness until told by a specialist doctor,” he told Bernama after a seminar for NS commandants here yesterday.
Chu’s health record did not state that he suffered from any illness.
Hadi said Chu’s family did not blame the department for the incident and accepted it after being told by a doctor.
The department gave RM3,000 to the family for burial expenses. ‑ Bernama
